Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Announces Support for the Recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)

Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka, Japan; Representative Director, President, and CEO: Hiroshi Nomura) announced its support for the recommendations made by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

Established by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) at the request of the G20, TCFD examines how climate-related information should be disclosed and how financial institutions should respond. TCFD published its final report in June 2017, recommending that companies and other organizations disclose climate-related risks and opportunities around four thematic areas that represent core elements of how organizations operate--governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets (the "Four Areas").

Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma has expressed its support for the TCFD recommendations on proactive disclosure of climate-related financial information. Accordingly, while taking into the account analysis findings of climate-related and other scenarios, we assess risks and opportunities that may impact our business, respond to them appropriately, and disclose information on the Four Areas.

Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma's environmental initiatives through our business activities will contribute to solving environmental issues and achieving a sustainable society, which will lead to the sustained enhancement of our corporate value.

In May 2021, Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma revised its Basic Environmental Policies, laying down medium- to long-term environmental goals designed to realize a decarbonized society, including "aiming at net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Scope 1 + 2) by fiscal 2050." To achieve such goals, efforts are underway to proactively disclose environmental information, engage in dialogue with stakeholders, and reduce environmental impact with the entire value chain in mind.
