Switch to 100% Renewable Energy for Electric Power Purchased by Suzuka Plant

Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka, Japan; Representative Director, President and CEO: Hiroshi Nomura) announced today that the conclusion of an agreement* (hereafter, "the Agreement") with Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co, Inc. for a switch to 100% renewable energy from April 2022 for electricity purchased by the Suzuka Plant (Suzuka, Mie Prefecture), one of Sumitomo Pharma's manufacturing sites in Japan.

The conclusion of the Agreement will result in reducing annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the Suzuka Plant by approximately 38% compared to fiscal 2020.

With the switch to 100% renewable energy by Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. for electric power purchased for its Oita Works, Oita Prefecture in November 2021, electricity used by Sumitomo Pharma's Oita Plant on the site is now completely renewable. This will decrease annual GHG emissions for the Oita Plant by approximately 52% compared with fiscal 2020.

As a result, the electric power purchased by all of Sumitomo Pharma's manufacturing sites in Japan will be completely sourced for renewable energy and this will reduce the Company's annual GHG emissions overall by approximately 24% compared to fiscal 2020.

In May 2021, Sumitomo Pharma revised its basic environmental policies and now aims to achieve net-zero GHG emissions (Scope 1+2) by fiscal 2050, in order to contribute to realizing a sustainable society and increase corporate value. Also, as a med- to long term environmental goals, the Company has set a target for reductions in GHG emissions (Scope 1+2) by fiscal 2030 and is engaged in various efforts to achieve it. With the latest complete switch to renewable energy for electric power purchased by all of manufacturing sites in Japan, it is expected that these targets can be achieved ahead of schedule and future GHG emission reduction targets are reconsidered to be raised.

Sumitomo Pharma will continue to proactively contribute to solving social issues such as climate change aiming at realization of a sustainable society.

* By adding environmental value to the electric power procured by Chubu Electric Power Miraiz through the use of non-fossil fuel energy certificates for sources of renewable energy such as hydroelectric electric power plants owned by the Chubu Electric Power Group, it is in effect achieving zero CO2 emissions.
