【Sumitomo Pharma Conducts Lessons on Bioethics (6) at Keio Girls Senior High School】

In January 2024, Sumitomo Pharma conducted lessons taught alongside teachers according to its original program about genome analysis and heredity at Keio Girls Senior High School. In these lessons, students consider how they would make decisions on issues that lie ahead in the development of science and technology.

The following are comments from some of the students who participated: "In the time when science and technology are being developed, I had a valuable experience in the lesson to be able to think about and make decisions on things we had never considered before." and "There were not only people with　opinions different from mine, but also those who shared the same opinions but for different reasons. This made me truly realize that people have various perspectives." Thus, the company felt that from the program, the students were able to think of the content of the lessons as their own problem through workshops and recognized diversity through dialogs.

As part of its social contribution activities, Sumitomo Pharma is engaged in activities to support the development of the next generation through the utilization of its experience in creating pharmaceuticals. As one of these activities, the company has since fiscal 2012 been focusing on lessons conducted at junior high and high schools in which its employees serve as lecturers.
