【Sumitomo Pharma Conducts Lessons on Bioethics (8) at Kokoku High School】

In March 2024, Sumitomo Pharma conducted lessons taught alongside teachers according to its original program about genome analysis and heredity at Kokoku High School. In these lessons, students consider how they would make decisions on issues that lie ahead in the development of science and technology.

The following are comments from some of the students who participated: "Even though I was initially convinced of something, by listening to various opinions and considering them, I ended up with a different perspective." and "I realized that it is important to evaluate the positive and negative aspects of advancing technologies from various perspectives." Thus, the company felt that the students have become aware of the significance of dialogue with others through this program.

As part of its social contribution activities, Sumitomo Pharma is engaged in activities to support the development of the next generation through the utilization of its experience in creating pharmaceuticals. As one of these activities, the company has since fiscal 2012 been focusing on lessons conducted at junior high and high schools in which its employees serve as lecturers.
