【Cooperating “Onigiri Action” as a Supporting Partner】

Onigiri Action is an initiative originated in Japan to donate school meals to children in need by posting photos related to “Onigiri” (rice balls) on social media with the hashtag #OnigiriAction. With support and contributions from partner companies and organizations, five school meals per post are provided to children in Africa and Asia through the specified non-profit organization TABLE FOR TWO International (TFT).

The Onigiri Action campaign was launched by TFT to celebrate World Food Day (October 16), established by the United Nations as a day for everyone to think about food issues in the world.

Continuing from 2021, as part of our social contribution activities, Sumitomo Pharma cooperated with the Onigiri Action campaign as a supporting partner. We also made matching donations according to the number of photos posted on the special site by our employees.

According to TFT report, a total of 283,461 rice ball photos were posted during the period in 2022, which achieves delivering about 1.56 million meals, that is about 7,800 school meals per one year, to children in Africa and Asia. The number of posts per day was over 8,800, the highest ever.
